“Cool compensation” criteria

Tread carefully when it comes to “offsetting” to make sure that the offset, or what I call the compensation, is being channelled mostly into projects that pass my criteria of high impact and high speed. It’s fine also to put some money into some that are slower (ie tree planting) but you need to mix your portfolio between high impact/fast return and high impact/slow return schemes.

Traditional carbon offset schemes

Focus on “Gold Standard” (UN certification) projects which are clearly bringing new renewable energy onstream or addressing the other top Drawdown priorities (see pp20/21)
